In a world where technology has become a major force in daily living, the demand for information about the latest gadgets and digital innovations is going higher and higher.  It’s exactly this demand that tech blogs like Engadget and TechCrunch are trying to answer to, and boy, do they answer it well.  Both blogs are some of the highest-earning today, and are showing no signs of slowing down their readership base.

2.  Politics

If you think that writing about politics is the surest way to drive people away from your blog, think again.  Just take a look at The Huffington Post, which provides a constant stream of political commentary online, and is one of the highest-earning blogs in the blogosphere today.  Just goes to show that intelligent content need not be unpopular!

3.  Entertainment

Call these blogs what you will – cheap, trashy, mean – but you can’t deny the fact that they’re a hit with the public.  Not only are they a hit; they’re also making much more money than other blogs are.  This is because blogs like Perez Hilton pander to a very basic, human desire to know what’s going on with other people’s lives, especially when these people happen to be rich and famous.  If Hollywood is your thing and you have a penchant for digging out other people’s dirty secrets, why don’t you give this niche a shot? 

4.  Personal Blogs

Sometimes, when it comes down to it, what you really want to talk about is yourself, and nothing else.  No politics, no showbusiness – just yourself.  And when done just right, a highly personal blog like TuckerMax.com can churn out as much revenue and attract more profit than its professional counterparts.  Try to  make your entries as interesting as possible without sacrificing wit and intelligence.  Oh, and a little controversy never hurt anyone.

Ultimately, the best topic for your blog is one that you’re most interested in, since that means that you can sustain the daily task of updating and maintaining your site.  Riding on the popularity of a specific niche alone isn’t actually a guarantee that your blog will be successful  — what you really need is to mix that with a lot of hard work, quality blogging, and enough business smarts, and you’re on your way to a long-term, solid profit.
